  • Falling into it!

It has been quite a while since my last post on here, so I thought that I would update it and add a couple more photos to my album at the same time.
As you noticed, my last photo posted (the first) was taken last winter during a snow storm. During this past Summer I have been busy doing excavating, and landscaping around our home. It started last summer actually when I began to excavate the landing area behind our home to allow for more parking. It was completed this summer with the help of my good friend Earl Reiff.
While I am yet working at the landscaping, it is progressing rather nicely. I have greatly improved the area around our fish pond (see pics) and built a set of stairs up the banking along side of our house, and then built a stone wall at the end of the excavation area and started to do the finish landscaping as well. I hope that next year will see the end of the major work involved (Lord willing) in trying to make things more easily accessible and maintained.

Like my last post, I still enjoy the discussions on MennoDiscuss online. I have cut my work week back to 4 days a week and only 8.5 hours a day. I am no longer the foreman in our shop, having stepped down and cut my hours at the same time. I was having too many angina attacks because of the stress, so I asked to be relieved of those duties and they have been given to a younger fellow.

I still enjoy working at Yoder Barns, especially the special projects that I get to do on occasion. Perhaps I should post pictures of the mini-sheds that I built last winter for them as well. They are 1/16th scale models of two of our designs that they can use for displays in malls, and other kinds of building shows. It was a real challenge and fun to fabricate these little sheds.

Well, that is all for now. Stop by and say hello when you are in the neighborhood!

  • Well, winter finally seems to be here. We were getting some snow today and it gave me a chance to actually put my lawnmower/plow to the test. I was quite surprised with its performance actually. We live on  a hill and the driveway is fairly steep, especially near the top. Well to make a long story short, it did the job quite admirably. Check it out!

I hope you were all snug in your various homes today.

I have been enjoying posting on MennoDiscuss quite a bit lately. If you know me very well, you will know that I enjoy the theology threads the most. We try to keep it friendly and usually it is, though there is rarely a consensus of opinions on any one issue.

Drop in sometime and see what is up!

  •     Here we are and the year 2007 has come and is nearly gone. Since my last post, my wife and I have moved (what again?). We sold our home in Lewisburg, and moved into the country, outside of Mifflinburg. We have a wonderful view of the mountains from our modest double wide mobile home. We expect this to be our last move, except the last one on to heaven, of course.
We took a ride this afternoon up to the top of Jones Mountain to look at the colors of God's palette. What we expected to be a half hour drive, ended in a 2 hour trek through the Hook Nature Preserve. While we weren't actually lost, we didn't know how far it was back to a tarred road. The road meanders through the untouched forests, for miles on end. The red oaks, the yellow maples and the greens and yellows of the evergreen and deciduous trees shimmered in the  light breeze of the afternoon. The blue skies were clear and the sun was brilliant as it played its way down to the gravel paths in rays of light, ever moving. The squirrels hurried from tree to tree, collecting and storing, in preparation for the long cold winter.
The birds at our feeders are especially active now, though the humming birds are gone. The last of the butterflies waft their ways between branches and petals, and the remaining bees lazily mosey around, not really knowing what to do. The chipmunks are scurrying around in constant action. As the leaves fall from the trees, and the grass stops growing, we are reminded of the time of rest that lies ahead for the earth, until it springs back to life after winter. So too, the workings of my hands slow down, as I head into the winter of my life. Try as I might, the onslaught of time tells its tale.
Unlike most other men, however, I have a Spring to look forward to, and an everlasting Day of peace and tranquility. You may find this rest too, a Sabbath, in the Messiah, Jesus, Yeshua! It begins here and now, don't wait.

  • Well it's about time!

Sorry friends that it has been such a long time since I made an entry here. I have been involved with Ebay, and Mennodiscuss.com and just haven't gotten around to adding anything here. We are about to ramp up our schedule at work (Yoder Barns), and will be going back to a full 5 day work week as of this coming week. We are expecting a sizeable order from one customer who wants about 35 special sheds built to be used for a Renaissance Fair. I have been enjoying the shorter weeks during the winter season, and the slower pace at work as well. We have made some pretty major changes in the shop, with the building of 3 new work stations, and revamping the warehouse to make things more organized. So far most of the comments have been positive.

Lord willing, my wife and I are planning on taking a trip up to Massachusetts the end of April. I hope to see family and friends while there. As usual it will be a quick trip, over a long weekend. Hopefully we can shorten our travel time by trying a different route this time.

Our little church fellowship disbanded recently. I will take the responsibility for that as my belief system was not in sync with most of the folks there. Rather than make folks feel uncomfortable, I decided to withdraw. Unfortunately, after my wife and I stopped attending, the others decided to quit, for which I am sorry. Thankfully, we are still friends with the folk, and have had some wonderful times of fellowship since the disbanding.

On a sadder note, a friend of ours, Merle Kline, passed away a couple of weeks ago. It was for the best, as he was pretty much bed-ridden in the nursing home for some time. He is singing and walking in heaven now! PTL

My wife and I are working on getting some things finished off around the house this Spring and Summer with the hopes of being able to sell our home here. We are going to try to downsize and go to one level living. As I get older it is increasingly difficult going up and down stairs all the time. Our bedroom is on the second floor and my office is on the second floor as well, and between the two of them, the majority of my time is spent on the second floor. I have many unfinished projects to complete and a couple to initiate before we will be ready to sell. I was working on my storage shed this afternoon, putting on the siding. The shed is quite unique in its construction, as it is built primarily from recycled materials. The basic floor structure is used lumber with the exception of the actual plywood on the floor. The walls were framed using shipping pallets, with packing sheets from our manufactured trim at work for the sheathing/siding. The rafters were salvaged from a local hardware store that just wanted to get rid of "the junk". The roof tin is left-overs from work, and previously used sheets that were stored on my property. When it is all completed, it will be painted and the roof will be alumatarred, so that it all blends together to look like a "finished" structure. I'll post a picture when it is done, perhaps?

Well it is nearly 1:30 am, way past time for bed! Good night, Y'all!

Hey Andrew, Thanks for the kind words. To be your friend is a privilege for me, and to know you as a brother is a double blessing. I trust that your scholars are being as well behaved as their tutor was for me, and that they are being inspired to strive for higher plateaus of knowledge and wisdom.
